A coffee table is a small piece of furniture used to hold tea sets. Commonly square or rectangular in shape, its height is similar to the armrest of an armchair. The name originates from its function as a stand between two chairs to hold cups and saucers. In modern internet culture, the word "coffee table" ( has acquired a metaphorical meaning of bearing hardship due to its homonym with "tragedy" and "tableware" (meaning tragedy). This furniture first appeared in Ming Dynasty paintings as a combination of incense table and coffee table, evolving into an independent category by the Qing Dynasty. The main materials include wood, metal, glass, and stone.
The modern coffee table market is showing a trend towards multi-functionality, with an increasing proportion of products integrating intelligent height adjustment and wireless charging. Modular designs allow coffee tables to be converted into desks, dining tables, etc. In terms of material classification, solid wood coffee tables dominate the mid-to-high-end market, while glass coffee tables are favored by younger consumers. In regional markets, first-tier cities prefer customized products, while second- and third-tier cities focus on cost-effectiveness.
